Meet Jameson
A True Fighter
Birthday: 9/4/2011
Two years after her son Anthony was killed by a drunk driver, grief had settled into every corner of Jody’s life. The sympathy calls had faded, the check-ins had stopped, and the house felt unbearably quiet. One stormy night, with rain pounding, and thunder shaking the walls, the universe knocked on her door. A drenched, trembling senior pittie stood on her porch, terrified, alone, and forgotten. Jody brought him inside, dried him off, made him a soft bed, and gave him food and water. What she didn’t know yet was that this dog wasn’t just seeking shelter, he was delivering comfort. “I’m pretty sure that dog saved me,” she says. His name became Jameson, after Ant’s favorite Irish whiskey, and from that day forward he never left her side.
His first vet visit told another story: Heartworm positive, stage 4 heart murmur, acute arthritis, and later, degenerative myelopathy (DM). A progressive neurological disease similar to ALS in humans, DM slowly steals a dog’s ability to walk. At one point, Jameson’s hind legs were completely paralyzed. He couldn’t even lift his head to eat; Jody had to prop him up and feed him from her hand. But Jameson never stopped loving people. His tail never stopped wagging. He never stopped trying.
Where many would give up, we lean in. Jameson was the catalyst needed to move forward in forming our nonprofit, Ant’s Happy Endings Senior Dog Sanctuary. Thanks to a generous donor and Jody’s loving care, Jameson received: Intensive physical therapy, hydrotherapy and water treadmill work, acupuncture, pain management, chiropractic care, homeopathic supplements, a specialized diet, and finally…custom wheels!
Little by little - inch by inch - he fought his way back. Today, Jameson can walk short distances on his own. When he’s in his wheels, he zooms away from Jody the moment she says it’s time to go home. His spirit is bright, bold, and absolutely unbreakable.
